Lead Accountant

Toronto, Ontario

Oversee all financial operations at EthosMR, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and fiscal integrity across projects, vendors, and global teams.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:
Supervise day-to-day accounting functions including payables, receivables, payroll, and reconciliations for multiple entities under EthosMR and EthnicPath.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
Prepare annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and financial models to support leadership in strategic decision-making.

Reporting & Analysis:
Produce detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; analyze performance metrics and identify areas for cost optimization.

Project Accounting:
Track project-based expenses, revenue recognition, and profit margins; ensure accuracy in cost allocations and client billing.

Tax & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations, HST filings, and international reporting obligations where applicable. Liaise with external accountants or auditors as needed.

Process Improvement:
Implement and refine accounting systems, internal controls, and workflow automations for improved accuracy and efficiency.

Vendor & Contractor Payments:
Manage vendor relationships, oversee payments to global contractors, and ensure timely invoicing cycles.

Payroll Administration:
Coordinate payroll for both domestic and international employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.

Audit & Documentation:
Maintain detailed financial records and support audit processes through meticulous documentation and reporting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with Operations and Project Management teams to align financial planning with ongoing research projects and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation preferred).

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience in service or research-based industries is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax compliance.

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar tools.

  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills for data analysis and reporting.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational discipline.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a remote environment.

  • Experience managing global payments, FX transactions, or multi-currency accounts is a plus.
